Apropos of Turtle Ponds
Apropos of Turtle Ponds; left side detail; R Williamson, acrylic & china marker back painted glass; 44” w x 24” h x 1.4” d; 9/25
A new painting on glass, this painting is set up to have contrast between right and left, with the turtle flotilla setting up a distinct rhythm while the swan side is more a proliferation of lifeforms, some fanciful.
As usual when I work this way, it’s using an old craftsman era house window whose size and weight I trim down first. I turned this piece with two relights on its side to arrive at this composition. The work is kind of a diptych since the picture plane is divided by a mullion. Colors are soft and muted with the black china marker giving it a slight sense of an animation acetate cell.
Overall size is 44” wide x 24” high x 1.4” deep.
