Scenes from Kishkindha

Scenes from Kishkindha; R Williamson, acrylic and watercolor on canvas with texture ground; 2 pcs 12’ x 12’; 4/24

A sort of mini-diptych, ‘Scenes from Kishkindha’ is based on Mughal court painting from the 18th century, in particular depictions of various stories from the Sanskrit Ramayana. I isolated a few of the thousands of figures in Ramas army to make this miniature scene on two small canvases. The stretched squares were being tossed out by a studio neighbor when they were moving out and I saved them for doodling on.

Kishkindha is the monkey forest, the kingdom of the Vanaras (forest dwelling monkeys) in Hinduism, led by Rama's loyal devotee, Hanuman.

Currently hanging at my Random Scraps show in upper Fremont, through April (‘24).
