Humming of the Ferns

Humming of the Ferns; R Williamson, acrylic on sub flooring panels; 32” w x 39.5” h x 1” d ; 3/25

A painting that brings in a painted version of some of the stylized stumps that I often build out of wood scraps. In this case seen against a veritable wall of fresh spring sword ferns done in a somewhat calligraphic and posterized fashion. Off to the left edge, a sidebar holds a very close up view of the activity in a bee colony seen in the dim light of the inner hive.

I was especially pleased with the simple but effective color palette that emerged spontaneously in this piece. On view as part of ‘The Bee Variations’ for the month of May at Perry + Carlson in Mount Vernon, WA.
