Fish Head/Honeycomb (detail)
Fish Head/Honeycomb; R Williamson, acrylic on canvas; 24” x 30” (entire canvas); 1/26
This detail is from a painting that I did last spring, included in a show in early summer and then totally reworked this winter.
Intact is the fish head detail with braided rope, an element taken in part from a famous woodcut by Hokusai and here reimagined as sitting in a bowl. In that original piece, the fish head was against a white background and two albino mice cavort to one side. Whether mice or honeycomb, the jarring juxtaposition seems to be the fate of this fish head.
